Davis, Donald
Donald was born in 1938 at Holly, Colorado and he graduated In 1956 from High School at Fairplay, Colorado. His caving exploits began at the Colorado A&M University Hiking Club in 1958. In 1963, he hiked a small inflatable raft to Tapeats Creek Cave. The next year, he and George Beck used pipe sections to gain access to Deer Spring Cave. Donald began exploring Grand Canyon caves in earnest including swinging into Redwall caves while dangling at the top of the Redwall. This is a 9 part interview and is yet to be transcribed. NOTE: Unfortunately, Part 8 has technical difficulty. The first 5 minutes of the recording is overlapped by the last 5 minutes of the recording. We will do our best to try to fix this in the transcript.

Donato, Clare
Clare grew up in South Carolina. She loved swimming and horseback riding. Clare was show jumping when she was ten years old and worked construction jobs to pay for a college degree in sociology. During a Youth Conservation Corp stint at Grand Canyon in 1980, Clare asked to work on the Trail crew. She enrolled in an 8-week course on how to shoe a mule so she could apply for a Mule Packer job at Grand Canyon National Park. It's possible Clare was the first female hired in this position.
